PEOPLE’S VICTORY
The inhabitants of the worst polluted wards of Eloor Panchayat can now heave a sigh of relief. Their dreams have come true. Not that these are pollution-free. But the apex court monitoring committee has ordered to give free drinking water to the most affected wards namely1,2,3,4,19and20. In fact, This order was issued as far back as 2006 but the callous indifference of industrial giants delayed the project as the cost of this project i.e. 140 lakhs is to be borne jointly by the culprits-polluting companies like FACT,HIL,IRE &MERCHEM. After a relentless and unflinching struggle of the people, this project has been realized and Kerala state Minister Mr. N.K Premachandran is going to inaugurate the project on 15th January 2009.All kudos to the local area monitoring committee and PMVS for doing a wonderful job of harnessing people under a common banner to get this project done at the earliest. This is a victory of the people and an example to all environmentalists who fight for free drinking water
